Polk and Andrew Johnson. \u003c\/span\u003eThe architecture is a blend of Greek Revival and Palladian Styles. These architectural styles were not commonly seen in Middle Tennessee homes of the era. Taking frequent trips to Louisiana, Judge Guild became impressed by the Creole-style homes he encountered and added loggias and galleries to connect separate wings, wide porches, and created open-air halls. The main façade of the home employs a classic Italian design by Andrea Palladio, whose influences are seen in the design of many mid-19th-century plantation houses in the south. The name, Rose Mont, was derived from a large rose garden that Judge Guild’s wife, Catherine Blackmore Guild, maintained on the north side of the house. This rose garden has been beautifully restored and maintained.   Judge Guild was a successful judge, lawyer, legislator, advocate, soldier, and horseman. During the mid-1800s, when Sumner County was the center of horse-racing in America, Rose Mont produced some of the finest sires, dams, and racers in the industry. His most notable horses were Beeswing, Jack Malone, and Hiawatha.  In 1978, Rose Mont was listed on the National Register of Historic Places under the name Rosemont. It was occupied by members of the Guild family from its construction until 1993 when it was acquired by the City of Gallatin and the Rose Mont Restoration Foundation. The home is located at 810 S. Under the ownership of Lee West in the 1950s and all the way to the late 1970s with the owner, Floyd Scott, it was known as the place to stop for popcorn or at one point, even a snowcone. When walking or driving by Scott’s Popcorn Stand, many remember hearing Mr. Scott exclaim, “Come on get some popcorn”, and you could smell the aroma from the next block.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003cspan class=\"JsGRdQ\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eNow owned by Mudd Properties, the space that for many years has only served as a fun photo op, home to many memories, and a hub for connectivity (housing equipment for the downtown area’s WiFi), once again is a place for…POPCORN! The house itself was built in 1937 by one very beloved owner who had a significant impact on the local historical community, Miss Mary Felice Ferrell. Miss Ferrell built the house out of several historic homes in the area (such as the Boyers House of 1810 from the Gallatin downtown square, the Mentlo Barn, the Ferrell Farm in Cages Bend, and the Baker House on Red River Rd). Miss Ferrell was the owner and proprietor of a nationally known antique establishment, Log Cabin Antiques, for over 60 years in the main part of the home.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none white-space-prewrap\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe “Mary Felice Ferrell House” was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eIn later years, Roberta and Carl Hancock purchased the property and ran a bed and breakfast for decades called the Hancock House Bed and Breakfast. The Hancock House was a favorite among locals and those from afar for hosting gatherings, including weddings for up to 200. The Hancocks were still operating the B\u0026amp;B when it experienced a devastating fire in August 2021, destroying more than 50% of the home. While there was hope it could be preserved, a decision was made by the then-owners to say goodbye. Built in 1832 by Isaac Franklin, a prominent plantation owner and slave trader, the mansion stands on what was once a 2,000-acre plantation. Designed by Franklin himself, the home blends several architectural styles, including Georgian Colonial, Jeffersonian Classical, Adamesque, and Greek Revival. Franklin relied on the labor of enslaved people to construct the mansion under the supervision of white craftsmen, and the grounds once included numerous outbuildings, such as stables, a blacksmith shop, and nearly twenty slave houses. While the mansion's grandeur reflects the wealth of its era, the lives of the enslaved individuals who built and worked on the estate are a crucial part of its history. Fairvue also became known for its legacy in horse racing, as Franklin and later owners bred some of the finest thoroughbreds in the country, contributing to Tennessee's early reputation as a center for racing excellence. William H. Wemyss (a cofounder of Jarman Shoe Company) bought Fairvue in 1934. Five years later, he married “Miss Ellen” and she began restoring the house and grounds.
